First released at the same time as USB 3.1, it was the first connector of the USB standard to be originally designed to be reversible. USB Type C was at first capable of up to 10 gigabits per second transfer speeds and due to USB 4.0, now capable of speeds up to 40 gigabits per second. It is now the only connector official supported by the USB Implementers Forum as of the release of USB 4.
