watchOS is a proprietary operating system developed and released by Apple for its Apple Watch series of products. While the foundations of watchOS come from iOS, which in and of itself is based on Apple’s open-source Darwin operating system, it is heavily modified to fit the extra small, touch-based form factor. The iconic iOS home screen is replaced by an Apple Watch alternative referred to as the “Carousel” in development. watchOS places a large emphasis on health and wellbeing with a dedicated focus on exercise and physical health.
