Regional Code Enhancement or RCE, also known as DVD Region Codes or Region Codes is a method of DRM (Digital Rights Management) that is used to control the region one particular version of a DVD can be played in. This, in turn, allows DVD manufacturers to specify which regions the DVDs can be played in, as well as controlling its price.

Regional Code Enhancement works by the DVD players and the DVD itself having a region code. If both have the same region code match, they can play properly, if they don’t an error message would pop-up.
