iTunes authorizations verify your device to allow your device to play content purchased on the iTunes Store. You must authorize a computer device in iTunes in order to play your purchased content, such as music, apps, movies, and TV shows that are protected by DRM or Digital Rights Management.

Apple limits the number of computers that can be authorized at a time to 5. While iTunes authorizations don’t apply to iOS devices, they do apply to both Windows and Mac PCs.
