Domain Registrars are companies that have been accredited by both ICANN and domain registry operators to sell domains to customers or “registrants” (Individuals, Groups or Companies who register domains)

Domain registrars can usually be confused with domain resellers. While domain resellers do not require an ICANN certification nor approval from domain registry operators, domain registrars do. Domain resellers, as their name suggests, resells domains that are obtained from domain registrars.

It is important to note the difference between domain registrars, registry operators and the ICANN. Domain registrars are the companies that sell you the domain for the customer to use. Domain registry operators only operate the registry they are assigned to by ICANN and only sell domains to domain registrars. Some popular examples of domain registrars include:
