Coding conventions otherwise referred to as coding standards or coding guidelines, are a collection of rules and guidelines that have been set for a programming language in order to increase standardization/uniformity and improve readability. Most programming languages have guidelines in regards to the styles and methods that should be used when coding. While coding conventions are not required to be followed, it is highly recommended by many programmers and educators alike, as not only does it improve standardization and readability, it also allows other programmers to easily view and understand the code.
Some coding conventions include indentation, punctuation, such as adding a semicolon after a function, and capitalization, such as the recommendation to use camelCase when declaring variables.
