bridgeOS is an operating system developed by Apple for iBridge devices. bridgeOS is a heavily modified version of watchOS made to run on Apple’s T-series of embedded processors to control hardware components on Macs. This includes important components such as the “FaceTime” front-facing camera, the Touch ID sensor on MacBooks, as well as the Touch Bar on Apple’s MacBook Pros. bridgeOS is also tasked with managing the Secure Enclave co-processor that is included with the Apple T-series of chips. It acts as a gatekeeper for the microphone and front-facing camera, to prevent unauthorized access, as well as handling the encryption of fingerprints from the Touch ID sensor.
