Backups are a critical part of keeping data safe from all kinds of hazards. The 3-2-1 rule of data protection is a common acronym used for backing up data.

The rule states that there should be at least three copies of your data, two of those copies of your data must be on different storage mediums and one of the copies must be offsite.
